How to Use Your Flexible Spending Account

blog 135

Every year thousands of Orlando residents set aside money in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) only to wind up not spending it by the end of the year. The trick with FSA’s is that if you don’t use it, you lose it. And that flat-out stinks because it’s money wasted. Tax-free money that could have been spent on boosting you or a loved one’s self-esteem with braces or Invisalign®.

What’s interesting is that there are specific rules on how you can spend your FSA dollars. For example, cosmetic orthodontics like veneers or teeth whitening aren’t covered. Yet, if you have a medical condition that makes it a necessity for getting Invisalign® or braces, it could be covered. So, don’t just assume that you can’t use your FSA dollars for fixing your smile. You can.

The simple rule is this: anything that treats or prevents dental disease is eligible for FSA coverage.

Here is a list of what’s covered:

  •  Teeth cleaning
  • Fillings and sealants
  •  Crowns
  • Bonding
  • Dentures
  • Tooth extraction
  • Inlays and onlays
  • All diagnostic and preventative services
  • Treatments for gingivitis
  • TMJ (temporomandibular joint) syndrome
  • Gum recession
  • Oral surgery
  • Payments for Braces

Did you read that last one? Payments for braces are covered by your FSA! There are only about 25 days left to use your remaining FSA dollars. Don’t lose them. Use them.
